Louisville's healthcare is nationally known and several Louisville
hospitals have been voted in the top 100 hospitals in the country
including Norton, Baptist East and Jewish Hospitals.
In 2001, Jewish Hospital, which is ranked in the top 50 for heart
surgery and respiratory disorders by US News & World Report,
was the first in country to successfully implant the Abiocor artificial
heart.
Jewish Hospital was also the setting for the nations first hand
transplant in 1999. The operation was performed on Matthew David
Scott, 39, and headed by Dr. Warren C. Breidenbach, a hand surgeon
with Kleinert, Kutz and Associates Hand Care Center.
